Edward L. Nichols

Dr. Edward L. Nichols, 83, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, died November 26, 2012, at Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale, Arkansas. Born August 29, 1929, in Pindall, Arkansas, he was the son of H.M. Nichols and Laura Reeves Nichols. He received a B.S.E. from UCA and a M.Ed., degree from Ball State. Dr. Nichols received his EdD from the University of Tulsa, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a college professor at Le Tourneau University, Longview, Texas prior to moving to Siloam Springs in 1960, where he began teaching at John Brown University. He was a member of the JBU Hall of Fame, Phi Delta Kappa and Sigma Tau Delta Honor Society. On April 28, 1951, Dr. Nichols married his first wife Mary Jane Landis in Little Rock, Arkansas. He married Carol W. Steele on December 23, 1989, in Siloam Springs. Dr. Nichols was a member of First Baptist Church, Siloam Springs. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Nichols in 1975; his parents; six brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include his wife Carol of the home; one son, Eddy Nichols and wife Ruth of Owasso, Oklahoma; one daughter, Lydia Collins and husband Gene of Siloam Springs; seven grandchildren, Mary Jane Bolding and husband Mike of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Jessica Thornton and husband Jody of Springdale, Arkansas, Sarah Landers and husband Mat of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Faith Sewell of Siloam Springs, Laura Goodwin and husband Adam of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Luke Nichols of Glenpool, Oklahoma, and Hannah Nichols of Owasso, Oklahoma; eight great grandchildren, Micah Landers, Aidan Landers, Merrick Bolding, Hope Sewell, Josie Thornton, Millie Bolding, Lily Goodwin, and Jules Thornton; three step daughters, Cathi Utley and husband Danny of Hermann, Missouri, Peggy Chenault and husband Zane of The Colony, Texas, and Cyndi Holt and husband Bill of Memphis, Tennessee; nine step grandchildren, Beth Rouse and husband Joe Marshall of Piggott, Arkansas, Claire Chenault and Neal Chenault, both of the Colony, Texas, Will Daffron and Molly Daffron, both of Piggott, Arkansas, Jonathan Utley of Hermann, Missouri, and Hailey Holt, Olivia Holt, and Wilkes Holt, all of Memphis, Tennessee; and one step great grandchild, Aubrey Rouse. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Siloam Springs, with Dr. Steve Abbott officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Missions, 2000 Dawn Hill Road, Siloam Springs, AR 72761.
