William Herbert Burnside Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

William (Bill) Herbert Burnside, 88, went to be with the Lord on March 25, 2022, surrounded by loving family in the Rogers and Gentry AR area. Bill was born on September 12, 1933 in Sacramento, California. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannine and Christopher Little of Hendersonville, NC, and Cher and Stephen Isbell of Rogers, AR; as well as two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Oliver and Olivia Martinez of Stockdale, TX and Jonathan and Belinda Burnside of Cotati, CA. Other survivors include twelve grandchildren, Michelle and Nicole Little of NC; Colin Burnside and Shelly Cagle Cheney of AR; Wendy Adler, Julie Thompson and Amy Duncan of AR; Rory, Annabel and Gemma Burnside of Melbourne, AUS, and Ziggie and Satchie Burnside of CA. Bill is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received his bachelor's degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, his master’s degree from the University of Southern California, both in History. He taught in the California public schools until the family moved to Siloam Springs, AR in 1969, where he taught History, Political Science and Spanish at John Brown University and earned his Ph.D. in U.S. History from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. During these years he also did summer missionary work in Mexico. After retirement, Bill and his wife, Minnie West Burnside, went to Taiwan as missionaries and taught for three years at Christ’s College in Taipei. After returning to the U.S. they settled in Sequim, WA and Bill pastored Oak Bay Baptist Church. For many years, they continued a home ministry with Chinese and Taiwanese students in WA and taught international online Bible studies. After his beloved wife Minnie went to be with the Lord in 2010, Bill spent the rest of his years living near children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in North Carolina and Arkansas. He will be greatly missed and held in loving memory by family and friends around the world.
