William Johnathan Stewart Jr.

William Johnathan “Bill” Stewart, Jr., 97, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, died on April 6, 2024. He was born on October 3, 1926, in Stephenville, Texas to William Johnathan, Sr. and Nellie (Sims) Stewart before Northwest Arkansas became home at the age of three. Bill was an Army Air Corp veteran and proudly served our country during WWII. Following his military service, Bill hauled milk for local farmers to the Pet Milk plant in Siloam Springs, AR and also worked for the International Harvester dealer in Siloam Springs before starting a 30-year career as a parts man for Bell International in Springdale. In November of 1950, Bill married his sweet “Betty Lou.” They celebrated 73 years of marriage last November. Bill was a faithful member of Cross Church in Springdale for 65 years. He had a passionate love for gardening and could be found playing dominoes most every day if he had a willing opponent. Bill was an integral member of the Butterfield Trail Village community for more than 21 years, even earning awards for his volunteer service in the recycling program. Bill will be remembered most as a faithful Christian, devoted husband, loving father and “Pappaw,” and loyal friend. Bill is survived by his wife Betty (Holt) Stewart; sons, Johnathan “Mark” and wife Amy Stewart of Louisville, Kentucky, and Ray and wife Anita Stewart of Springdale, Arkansas; brother, Dan and wife Lou Stewart of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Monica Stewart, Phillip Stewart and wife Heather, Matthew Stewart and wife Courtney, Alyssa Stewart, and Katie Day and husband Grant; nine great-grandchildren, Willow, Titus, Mercy, Levi, Haven, Autumn, Shepherd, Eden, and Kai; nephews, Chris and Jeff Stewart; and niece Virginia Lea Abshere, as well as many beloved friends and caregivers at Butterfield Trail Village. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Cross Church in Springdale with pastors Charlie Foster and Matthew Stewart officiating. A visitation will be held beforehand from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
