Dr. W Cary "Doc" Anderson

Dr. W. Cary Anderson, resident of Decatur, Arkansas and known to his many friends simply as “Doc,” passed from this life to his heavenly home on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Apple Creek Health and Rehab Center in Centerton, Arkansas, following a long illness. Born May 9, 1941, in Wynne, Arkansas, Cary was the youngest of his siblings and was raised on a farm two miles northwest of Cherry Valley, Arkansas. His formal education includes Cherry Valley High School, diploma; University of Arkansas, BS (Education) and MS (History); University of Northern Colorado, Doctorate (Education). Cary was an educator for 37 years, teaching elementary and high school in Missouri, Colorado, Columbia, Guatemala, Jamaica, and Bolivia, retiring his teaching career after nine and a half years at Decatur, Arkansas High School. During his nearly eighteen years in Latin America, he served as Chief Administrator of American Schools for thirteen years. Extensive travels took him all over the world; in addition to most of the United States, he visited Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Easter Island, most of Western Europe, England, Ireland, and Scotland. As a public servant, Dr. Anderson served the citizens of Benton County as Justice of the Peace and County Judge from 1995-2000. Cary’s passion was genealogy; he was a member of several local and national genealogical and historical societies. His extensive research resulted in five published books, several published articles, and four unpublished manuscripts. Cary held offices in a number of Masonic lodges and has been a longtime, faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church in Siloam Springs. Cary was predeceased in death by his parents, Roderick George Anderson and Francis Catt Anderson, brothers Mack Anderson, William Anderson, Jennings Anderson, and Rod Anderson, sisters, Veatrice Anderson Perry and Vorene Anderson Peak, nephews Rick Anderson and Mack David Perry. He is survived by five nieces and nephews: Angela Hathcock (Eddie), Jenean Henderson (David), Jim Anderson (Rita), Carl Anderson, David Anderson (Donella), and a host of grand, great-grand, and great-great-grand nieces and nephews, his long-time friend and caregiver Jeannie Harper, and many, many other friends. The family is forever grateful to the wonderful nurses, staff, and caregivers at Apple Creek Health and Rehab Center for the care and kindness extended to Cary. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 617 N. Mt. Olive Street, Siloam Springs, Arkansas, at 1:30 pm, December 13th, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Dr. W. Cary Anderson Youth Scholarship Fund at Grace Episcopal Church.
