John Thomas Mahoney III

John Thomas Mahoney III, 83, passed away on May 9, 2026. He was born on March 13, 1943, in Cold Springs, Kiowa County, Oklahoma, to John Thomas Mahoney Jr. and Opal Ailene Johnson Mahoney Miller. After losing his father at a young age, John was also raised and loved by his stepfather, Junior Travis “J.T.” Miller, who became an important part of his life. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sondra Louise Norris Mahoney; his father, John Thomas Mahoney Jr.; his stepfather, Junior Travis “J.T.” Miller; his mother, Opal Ailene Johnson Mahoney Miller; and his siblings, Oleta Mae Mahoney, Lenora Lee Mahoney, and Michael D Mahoney. He is survived by his children, Lynette Apgar Warren, John Thomas “Johnny” Mahoney IV and his wife, Michelle Mahoney, Michael Jewett Mahoney, and Seritha LeeAnn Mahoney. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kaylee Gorder and her husband, Ryan Gorder, John Mahoney V, Michael Dylan Mahoney, Matthew Tristen Mahoney, Madison Elizabeth Mahoney, and Reyleigh Rhiannon Twist; his great-grandchildren, John Mahoney VI, Everest Rayne Mahoney, and Blayzlee Gorder; his sister, Edith Ailene Mahoney; his brother, Leroy Earl Mahoney; and many extended family members and dear friends. John had a full heart and a curious mind. He loved bowling and spent more than 40 years in the lanes, where he made friendships he truly cherished. He loved genealogy and ancestry, spending years carefully building a treasure trove of family history to pass down to future generations. He also loved collecting coins, fishing, feeding the hundreds of hummingbirds that seemed to know exactly where to find him, and cheering on the Arkansas Razorbacks, unless they were playing OU. Then his Oklahoma roots won out. John was known as a man who could fix just about anything. His MacGyver skills were unmatched, and so was his work ethic. More than anything, though, he loved his family. He adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he took great pride in the people they became. He was an amazing human being, deeply loved by those lucky enough to know him, and he will be truly missed. Service details are pending.
