Jerry Waymon Hagens

Jerry Waymon Hagens of Colcord, Oklahoma passed away on March 23rd, 2025. Jerry was born on September 18th, 1938, in Claremore, Oklahoma. He was 86 years, 6 months, and 4 days of age. Over the years Jerry lived in Oklahoma and California. He attended Claremore Schools until he moved to California where he graduated from Denair High School in 1958. Jerry was an athlete. He played football and baseball. In fact, he was one of only two people to ever turn a triple play for his Denair Coyotes. Jerry was a cowboy who worked on cattle ranches and competed in bull riding and roping. He also worked in the dairy business and steel building business. He retired from the State of Oklahoma Transportation Department. Jerry loved hunting, and boy, did he have fish stories. He loved raising his farm animals which each had a purpose whether it be for food or fun. I remember a story he told of a neighborhood rabbit that bit a friend. He assured her that she had “gotten the last bite.” He had a special love of horses and continued to have them around later in life too. Most recently, he enjoyed driving his Mini Horse Buttercup pulling his cart. Everyone who knew Jerry knew about his handcrafted canes. Jerry made some amazing ones for sure, and many were customized for very special people. Jerry always carried a few around with him because they brought him, and others, great joy. He would never run across a Veteran and not offer them one of his canes as a thank you for serving our country. A beautiful sentiment for sure. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Charles Authur Hagens, his mother, Bertha Helen Hagens (née Moore), and siblings: Eugene Hagens (Danielle), Virginia Perkins (Carlos) and Kathy Turnbull (Stephen). Jerry is survived by his siblings: Betty Bell (Floyd), Patricia Walton (Bob), Donny Hagens (Joyce), Danny Hagens (Kerry) and Carl Hagens (Terri). His children: Dean Hagens (Connie) of Oakdale, CA, Scott Hagens (Jeannie) of Colcord, OK and Brett Hagens of Wyandotte, OK. His grandchildren: Casey, Cody, Samantha, BoShane, Tamara, Amanda, Kristen, Lacy, and Summer. His great-grandchildren: Hayven, Easton, Caden, Tristan, Gavyn, Austin, Stayton, Tanner, Blaize, Hazel, Peyton, Peyzlee, Kdyn, Bow, Abygal and soon to arrive AnnaBeth.
