James "J.D." Kirk Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

James Darrell "J.D.' Kirk, 84, of Carthage Missouri, formally of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, died Friday May 2, 2008 at Freeman West Hospital of Joplin, Missouri. J.D. was born on November 20, 1923 in Gentry, Arkansas. He was the Son of Martin L. and Josephine Kirk. He graduated from Gentry High School in 1941. J.D. served in the United States Army for eight years serving during World War II as a Sergeant in the 12th Army group in Europe and in the Hq. Co 5421 and the Koran. J.D. graduated from John University 1953 with Post Graduate work at the University of Arkansas, Lincoln University and Kansas State Pittsburg, Kansas. He taught High School science at Gentry, Ark., Camdenton, Mo and Carthage, Mo. He retired in 1976 and owned and operated TV Sales business in Siloam Springs. He also taught some his students the carpenter trade by buying and fixing up houses. J.D. was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 2590 of Carthage, Missouri and a Southern Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. J.D. is survived by one son, James D. Kirk Jr. and one daughter Patricia Hopping of Bentonville, Arkansas; four grand children; eight great grandchildren; seven great-great grand children; one brother M.C. Kirk of Overland Park, Kansas. Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday May 5, 2008 in the Gentry Cemetery, Gentry, Arkansas with Pastor Jim Whisenant officiating. Visitation will be Saturday May 3, 2008 and Sunday May 4,2008 at the Ulmer Funeral Home of Carthage, Missouri from 12 noon until 600 P.M. both days. Memorial contributions may be made to the OVER 60 Center of Carthage, Missouri in care of the Ulmer Funeral Home.
