James Barrett

James Barrett, 95, of Gravette, Arkansas, left this Earth on August 30th, 2014, at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his daughters. He was born September 13, 1918 in Kansas, to Walter Harding and Catherine Flossie (Crabtree) Barrett. James served in the Army during World War II. He was stationed in Italy where he was combat wounded. James received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a farmer and retired from the Gravette Shelling Plant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Destia” in 1988; his daughter, Dorthy Hudson; his son, Charles Leroy; daughter-in-law, Connie; son-in-law, Edmundo; and friend and encourager, J.W. Ramsey. James was also preceded in death by his brother, John; and sister, Lena. He is survived by his children: Clyde Barrett and wife Frances of Pryor, Oklahoma, Bill Barrett and wife Peggy, Loyd Barrett, Kathryn Ramirez, Donna Anderson and husband Donnie, all of Gravette, and Susie Andrews of Elmendorff, Texas; daughter-in-law, Kathy Barrett of Gravette; son-in-law, Jim Hudson of Maysville, Arkansas; brother, Harley Barrett and wife Doris of Alexandria, Louisiana; sisters, Rosella Cummings of Topeka, Kansas, Kathy Gigeous of Berryton, Kansas and Nancy McKenzie and husband Vernon of Emporia, Kansas; sister-in-laws, Mary L. Humphreys and Ellen Price of Gravette, and Calleen McCammon of Amoret, Missouri; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. The family wants to give a special thanks to Dr. Tucker, Jamie, Betty, Chris, and Jeannie for their care and respect for Dad and to Susie Andrews for her love, care and dedication to “Mr. Barrett”. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at First Christian Church, Gravette, Arkansas with Pastor Terry Longan officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Gravette. Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at First Christian Church, Gravette. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund at First Christian Church, P.O. Box 127, Gravette, AR 72736.
