Bradley Wayne Hickman

Bradley Wayne Hickman, 55, of Colcord, Oklahoma, was called home to the Lord Tuesday afternoon the 14th of April at the Cherokee Nation W.W. Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah, OK. Brad was born May 13, 1970. A lifelong avid outdoorsman and athlete, he spent most of his life in pursuit of competition and adventure. As a young man his athletic prowess led him to many accolades, trophies, and championships. Whether he was quarterbacking his hometown Colcord Hornets to some of the best winning seasons on record or pitching for the local American Legion team deep into the state playoffs, Brad was a standout no matter the sport. His competitive drive led him to pick up another piece of sporting equipment and focus his hand-eye coordination on something else. Brad took an interest in archery and began to compete in local 3D tournaments. His love of archery and spending time in nature, quickly morphed into a pursuit of not just winning tournaments but to competing at the highest level. Brad won many tournaments in the area and qualified for ASA World Championship in Valdosta, Georgia in 1994. He competed and finished as one of the top shooters in the World in his division. That love of archery also led to his love of bowhunting. Brad worked in Colorado as a professional hunting guide during the summers while he pursued his Degree in Wildlife Biology at Northeastern State University. During his many hunting and guiding pursuits, he was able to meet the biggest names in the outdoor industry. It was on whitetail trip in Illinois, when Brad first noticed his vision at times was blurry and accompanied by a dull headache. Brad was diagnosed with a rare tumor on his pituitary gland. At the time, fewer than six cases existed in the world in 2001. Over the next 25 years, Brad would make countless doctor visits with eight cranial surgeries lasting more than 10-14 hours. In 2021, tumors began to appear on his pancreas and liver. But through all surgeries, radiation, and chemo treatments, Brad’s spirit and faith in the Lord never waivered. He was an inspiration to his friends and a witness to all those who knew and loved him. His greeting “bear hug” for those who attended Westside Baptist Church was legendary and his spirit undeniable! After the loss of most of his eyesight, he has spent the last few years turning out beautiful wood burnings as an artist. Selling many of his creations at local craft fairs and artist gatherings around Greencountry. Brad is survived by his parents, Bill and Jean Hickman of Colcord Oklahoma; his son Braden and daughter Addison; and two nephews Scott and Mason Coleman. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles and an entire community of prayer warriors. He was preceded in death by sister, Christi Lois Coleman; maternal grandmother, Lois Hutchens; and paternal grandparents Bob and Pansy Hickman. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 3-5 p.m. at Orchard View Baptist Church. Services for Brad will be held on Monday, the 20th of April at 2p.m., at Orchard View Baptist Church in Colcord, Oklahoma, under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home. The family is at the home, 19216 Hwy 116, Colcord, OK.
