Adeene Draper Tippins

Adeene Draper Tippins, 94 year old resident of Lewisville, TX, passed away peacefully November 9, 2015. She was the fifth of six children born to Ollie & Lottie Harman Draper on January 18, 1921. Adeene was born in Logan community, Benton County, AR. When she was ten, their family moved to Robinson community. She married Barnett Tippins on November 10, 1945, in Rogers, AR, upon his return from the South Pacific at the end of WWII. They had known each other since elementary school. They moved to Gentry, AR, where they raised their two daughters, Susan and Sally, and were broiler farmers. In 1969 they moved to Tulsa, OK, where Barnett worked in the Post Office. Most recently she lived in Lewisville, TX, near her daughter Sally. At the age of 21, she completed beauty school in Conway, AR, and then began working as a beautician in Fayetteville, AR. After attending John Brown University in Siloam Spring, AR, she accepted a position as secretary/bookkeeper to the Superintendent of Gentry Public Schools. Adeene worked as an admitting clerk at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa and then later in Accounts Receivable for the City of Tulsa Water Department where she retired in 1983. She was particularly proud to be a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years. She taught Sunday school at the Gentry First Baptist Church. In Tulsa, Adeene volunteered for “Meals on Wheels” and was involved with the Inspirator’s at her church. An ambitious accomplishment was joining the local Y and learning how to swim at age 69. Knitting, sewing, and crazy quilting were just some of her hobbies. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Lowell) Bidwell of Huntsville, AL, and Sally (Roger) Schrayer of Lewisville, TX . She has two loving grandchildren, Ashley Schrayer (Jose) Barraza of Saginaw, TX, and Dr. Aaron Schrayer of Columbus, GA. Adeene has two very special great grand children, LJ Barraza and Arianna Draper Barraza, one sister-in-law, Helen Draper of Siloam Springs, AR, one brother-in-law, Donald Tippins of Bakersfield, CA, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, her parents, three brothers, Harman Draper, Roland Draper, and OA Draper, and two sisters, Sylvia Draper and Floy Draper Hellstern. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, AR. There will be a visitation at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow at Yell Cemetery in the Robinson community.
